Supply Chain
At Kimberly-Clark we view supply chain strategy ‘from the shelf back’. Any graduate who joins this team will have exposure to every stage of the process. Taking on this two-year programme, you’ll work on placements that include purchasing, planning, logistics and customer service. The whole team looks after the UK and western and central Europe, so your projects will have a distinct pan-European flavour, even though you will be based in this country.
Painting a picture
To give you an idea of how it all works: the process starts with a sales forecast for the next month, this is then refined into a weekly forecast, after which a manufacturing plan is created to meet this forecast. The raw materials are turned into the end product in the right numbers, and these are packaged and shipped to the retailer to hit the shelves for the customer.
What is it all about?
There’s so much that goes into the supply chain here, that we can only give you a glimpse right now. Essentially, the division is split into three teams.
These are Logistics (this is the local supply chain that takes forecasts and converts them into manufacturing plans before working with Marketing to create new/promotional products); European Supply Chain Services (they assess customer orders and make sure products are in the right place at the right time; and Procurement, who source all the materials.
Whichever placement you are on, you’ll work in cross-functional teams giving you exposure to a vast range of issues and people. The broad grounding you receive means you’ll emerge with a firm grasp of how an FMCG company works. That’s a great platform for the future.
